university. we have been working this story all morning. we're live at the sheriff's office in santa rosa with the details. >> reporter: i just spoke with investigators, and they tell me that the body found in that trunk is that of a 31-year-old man, a sonoma county resident, who was actually a suspect in a domestic violence incident just last week in santa rosa. now, the car that he was found stuffed in was on petaluma hill will road which happens to go past sonoma state university but the school was not involved at all. it was about 6:30 last night when two deputies noticed a car in a no parking zone. they got out and actually saw blood in the driver's side seat. that car had been tied to a domestic violence incident last week in santa rosa so that's what raised the red flag. it turns out the car had been sitting there since saturday. investigators saw that the trunk was unlocked and found the victim dead, wrapped in a blanket. now, they're not saying how he was killed, but they do say he had a criminal history and that could be related to all this. and it's possible he was killed somew

in santa rosa and 29 also in the napa valley. the good news is by the afternoon i think today the beginning of temperatures running up in the 60s in many spots. about 61 in san jose. 60 in morgan hill. about 60 degrees and sunny in sunnyvale. as you make your way to the east bay maybe not quite as warm but not bad. 57 degrees in pleasanton. 57 in livermore. and about 56 degrees in concord. inside the bay we'll find some sunshine too and temperatures as high as 60 degrees in oakland. 57 in san francisco. a little bit of a sea breeze in toward the afternoon. but the weather looks like it's going to get nicer over the next few days. high pressure building in and it's a very strong ridge so likely going to see some mid- 60s some places maybe even warmer than that through friday and saturday staying nice and dry right through the weekend. in fact, no rain for the next five to zen days but elizabeth, that may all change next week. >> no. >> yes! i think by the end of next week we start to talk about rain again. >> i remember last year too just

in santa rosa. >> a sad ending for one marin county family. on christmas eve police pulled over anthony donaldson on suspected drunk driving. they say he took off on foot and jumped into a rain swollen creek near the college of marin. rescue teams and his family spent days searching for him, but it wasn't until yesterday his body turned up in that creek. >> investigators are looking into the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in oakland. it broke out about 9:00 this morning at a house on the 200 block of east 26th street. news chopper 2 flew over as flames and smoke were coming from the roof. firefighters say the home was unoccupied and there were no injuries. the fire had to be fought from outside because firefighter history difficulty reaching the flames because to the amount of personal items stored inside the house. no word yet on an estimate of damage. >>> the cold spell in the bay area is finally coming to an end. we'll hear from our chief meteorologist in a moment. first though, tom vacar is at a flower farm in petaluma and tells us why so many people are glad this told weathe

and san jose. temperatures falling back down to the 40s for livermore and santa rosa. nothing on the radar now. chopper 5 was up earlier toward pacifica where we'll have surfing competition earlier this weekend. we saw some whales off the coast of pacifica. a cool shot there. maybe the whale was enjoying sunshine throughout the bay area. let's talk about the lack of rainfall. what a change from december to january. santa rosa you had a foot of rainfall in december. so far, halfway through the month, 11% of your average rainfall for january. we are only running at 15% for san francisco. and also 15% for san jose. a lot of snow up in the mountains but that snowpack is creeping back down to normal because the lack of moisture recently. not much will change. another cold night tonight will be below freezing for napa, fairfield at the freezing mark for concord and livermore. redwood city chilly 34 degrees. satellite-radar very easily shows you this high pressure dome because we see clouds around the periphery going clockwise way off to the west
